License To Carry Application

Before you start the application process make sure you have the information below, it will save you time and make submitting your LTC application easier.

Information needed:

  • DL or ID number
  • Previous 5 years of residential history
  • Previous 5 years of employments history
  • Criminal arrest record (if arrested)
  • Credit or debit card
  • Supporting Documents

Step One:

Submit your online application HERE. Select the “apply” button under new users. Make sure you enter in all the information it asks for. When entering the 5 year residential and employment history it does not allow any gaps in the dates, make sure you do what you have to so there are no gaps.

After you submit your online application you will receive an email with a detailed checklist and instructions on how to schedule your fingerprint appointment.

Step Two:

Follow the steps in the above mentioned email to set up your electronic fingerprint appointment.  The appointment takes about ten minutes and you can choose any IdentoGO location.  IdentoGO does not take walk-ins, so an appointment is required.  Cash is not accepted, so take your credit card or a cashiers check.

They will submit your fingerprints to DPS, you do not need to send anything from your fingerprint appointment.

Step Three:

Upload the required documents HERE. This can actually be done immediately after you submit your online application too. You do not need to get fingerprints before uploading documents.

  • LTC-100 Certificate of Completion (form given out by the Instructor at the end of class)
  • Supporting Documents (if applicable)   Ex. DD-214 for Veterans, Citizenship Info, Arrest Paperwork (Any required supporting documents will be listed on your BAR CODE Checklist)

****NOTE: Attachments should be in .pdf file format only and cannot contain special characters (: \/:*?<>|) in the file name.

After you have completed all the steps in the application process, DPS has 60 days to issue your Texas license to carry. Most are issued sooner but it can take up to 60 days.
